I am curious about how the refurbishment went. When we were flew in it was absolute chaos, spent two hours in a dusty bare room to get our stamps. While we were waiting an arabian flight came in and we were all pushed to the side to accommodate them first. Some of the passengers nearly came to blows with these buttinskis at this point. One guy at the desk, hunt and pecking each passport, absolutely no effort to organize lineups etc. Finally got through, went to the lone conveyor belt to pick up luggage, only to be told quite snottily that as we took so long to get through, or luggage had been taken off and strewn about the area, piled against the walls. It was quite the scene!!
Flip side, as we were exiting the building, we had people come up to us and apologize and ask us not to judge their country by our experience. One gentlemen meeting a student offered us a lift into Sham, but his heart was larger than his vehicle, as the student had quite a bit of stuff, so we quite easily hired a taxi to take us in.
I wouldn't mind flying into Damascus again, but do wonder how things are now at the airport? Anyone?
