Hi,ATM available in Syria in big cities and can accept master card no problem.Ensure to notify your bank that you are going to Syria just in case they block access to your money.
It is wise to have some cash(not the struggling kiwi dollar may be some USD and Euros) cos some times ATM dnt work or run out of cash.

There's an ATM near th Cham Palace Hotel in Damascus which lets you make cash withdrawals on Visa...but it operates sporadically.

Hiya,
We're from NZ and were in Syria in December 2007 and used both Visa and Mastercard there with no probs, but only used the Visa to make cash withdrawals from ATMs. Only the more upmarket places let you use your credit card to make purchases and we avoided this where possible as to keep away from all the extra charges etc. We had some US cash just in case the ATMs didn't work but never needed it. Syria is very affordable and you can make your cash go a long way.
