I have often used a city guide to a country e.g. Beijing when I am on a short stopover and not going anywhere else in the country. Can anybody recommend a city guide for Damascus? I know I can download the LP Syria chapter for Damascus but thought I would ask about a hard copy book first.

I dnt know of any such a thing city guide for Damascus .
I have been working on one my self.I have prepared a kind of information at the hostel cover alsmost every thing and places of interest for tourists up to date info on Damascus.
It is available for free you are welcome to have it.

The only city guide I know of is called "Damascus for you" by Ayman Debes, Trans -Orient Publications, printed in Syria 2009, ISBN 978-9933-9023-0-8 . Part of the book is "general information" or about tours out of Damascus, but still there is pretty much stuff about Damascus,
By the way I found it in a hotel (Oriental Hotel, next to Marcopoloo) price 600 S.P.
I you are specially intererested in historical monuments, I can recommend the chapter about Damascus in Ross Burns' Monuments of Syria.
