Hello,
would like to know if anyone recently stayed at a nice hotel downtown area in Damascus, should be near Merjeh. Only objection I have should not bee overrun by the Iranian pilgrims. Any suggestion nowadays, I usually stay at Al Fares Hotel complex, may be there is an better alternative...

Greetings

Juergen

You'll find many advices in older posts.
I stayed @ Afamia last December. Decent, clean, confortable and friendly. They charged 40€ - 45€ (don't remember exactly) for a double room. I don't know what's your definition of "cheap"...
Enjoy syria !

Try the Al-Maged, behind the cinema just off Yusuf Al-Azzma Square. They should have rooms to suit all price brackets. Definitely not "overrun" by Iranian pilgrims
