Hi guys,
I'm about to book some flights to Syria from London for mid-October, and wondered if it's advisable to book ALL of my hotels in advance? I'm going to book a hotel for the first couple of nights, but thought I could then take it from there. Is this a bit risky? Rather than staying in hostels I wanted to stay in hotels costing around $100, and might be visiting Jordan and Lebanon too.

In that price range you are always likely to find a space. No need to book ahead, although you may consider calling ahead if travelling to the coast, Petra or Beirut around Eid (late September).
If you are thinking of staying in Damascus I regret to inform .....you have a big problem.
I am desperately trying to find a hotel for mid-October and can not find any one that is not too much expensive, overpriced or worth the amount they want to charge.
I'm hating myself for having invented to go to Syria where everything is blatantly overpriced.... Days trips for 100/ 150 euros.... strange hotels for 150 USD . I want to rip my fight ticket !!!!!
In Jordan you get good hotels for much less than 100 USD but I think is better you book in advance. I recommend the Marian in Madaba and in Wadi Musa the Valley Star Inn. Theses hotels are simple, with affordable prices and very nice.
Jordan is fantastic , wonderful, very nice , hotels and days trips are much cheaper than in Syria .

I think i paid 25 usd for a hotel in Allepo in jan 09 not all hotels have websites there are cheaper hotels in syria sometimes you just have to walk around to find them!
