I wonder if anyone has any experience of applying for syrian tourist visa while stating that he/she is not employed but self-employed?

I notice that the Syrian Embassy in London require a letter from employer stating that the applicant is employed by them. I am self-employed (teacher, consultant etc) and am wondering if I would face some potential problems in getting the visa?

I am aware this has been addressed elsewhere in this forum but the query was related to self-employed journalists which may face different issues. I am not journalist or photographer but simply a private tutor and consultant for various organisations in the UK.

Any tips or reassurances from others would be great.

Cheers,

I don't think it is a problem at all to apply for Syrian Visa when you are self-employed ! just contact the Syrian embassy and they will tell you what other papers or where else you could get recommendation letter !
like when you travel in other countries, usually they require a letter from your country embassy or consulate in that area.it is purely for verifying identity issues .

I agree--just ask them. I think they'll let you just write "consultant."

I had the same problem and all they wanted off me then was some bank statements showing funds and a regular income from profit. The London emabssy is also really nice and helpful on the phone so just ring them and check but it worked just fine for me.

I had a similar issue when applying during a two month period between jobs - I simply made up a company name, printed an official looking letter and got a friend to sign a letter stating my employed status.

I went through this. In the end all I did was ask someone I do regular work for to write a letter on headed notepaper. (I gave him a sample letter and as he is a barrister he made subtle but meaningful changes!) I don't think the consulate are interested in whether you are self-employed or not. It would obviously be crucial if the person states that you are going back to work for them.

Thanks everyone for all your advices!

I called the Embassy in London and you were right - they were very helpful. In the end they said that I need to write a letter from myself - all handwritten - with letterhead of my business, outlining that I am self employed with some descriptions of what I do. That was it!

Posted them off last week and received my passport back today with visa! So looking forward to Syria in September!

Thanks!
