Can anyone tell me if the following quote from an old Lonely Planet is still the case, please.

"From May to September it can be extremely difficult to get a room at any price in Damascus, Hama or Lattakia as these towns are flooded with Saudis .... "

If so, can you recommend budget accommodation in any of those towns?

With thanks
Lois

Don't worry, I've been in Syria in July last year and did find very cheap accomodation easily in all these citys you mentioned. Maybe in Damascus don't be too late in the evening to look for a room, otherwise it's no problem.

Yes they are busy - but you can always find something
- don't worry.

Not just Saudi's but Iraqis, Jordanians and other Gulf countries
escaping the intense heat back home.
