In the section on Women Travellers in the Directory at the end of the current edition of the Oman, UAE and Arabian Peninsula Lonely Planet, it states that:

"Any specific restrictions on visas, travel or general movement of women (mostlty in Saudi Arabia and crossing the border alone by bus in Oman) are covered in the Women Travellers section in the individual country chapters."

I am a female traveller and am planning a trip to Oman next month. I am planning on entering Oman, alone, by bus from…

I'll be in Oman for two weeks for vacation/sightseeing. I'm a 37 years old guy from germany and experienced in doing trips on my own (see mobiltom.de). Thought maybe someone else might want to join in for some trips together. I'll have a rental car

Greetings!

We will be traveling to Oman in late October/early November and would like to camp for a few days. I was wondering if someone local can tell me if there's a camping equipment store in Muscat where I might "hire/rent" a sleeping bag. I really don't want to have to schlep my sleeping bag from North America as we'll be continuing on to Abu Dhabi and Dubai for some time afterwards.

Thanks for your assistance.

a female friend of mine and I are thinking of travelling to Oman by ourselves. We are quite experienced travelling the middle east, we've been to jordan, syria, lebanon and egypt together, but never in an emirate or on the peninsula before; anyone have any experience to share what it's like to travel oman as a woman on your own? is it easy to get around (buses etc), book hotels and tours, eg to the desert?
I do speak arabic quite fluently, so I guess that should help ... but still…

Hi all, just got back from a roadtrip to Muscat and sorroundings. Drove down from Dubai via Hatta border. Getting out of UAE border was quite easy and quick. However the entry at the Oman side was quite frustrating and slow. We took 2 hours since it was a long weekend and there was a lot of rush. I am a resident of UAE so had to buy the AGCC visa which is OMR 5 per person. They do check for vehicle insurance in Oman so keep that handy. Takes almost 3 hours from the border to Muscat via quite a…
