Any thoughts on booking a tour by road from Dubai to Oman versus flying and opting for more time in Oman? I think I have come to the conclusion that flying is best (was recommended by a travel agent in a Dubai hotel based on my traveling alone). I had originally thought there might be lots of interesting sights along the way but I understand there is much to see in Muscat and then the surrounding countryside is said to be spectacular . Seeing as I will only have 1-2 days seems best to spend it sightseeing in Oman...Would you agree?
Once i actually get to Oman, one option would be a half day organized city tour of Muscat (any recommendations for companies that do this?)
And then full day (10 hr) Great Canyon Tour of Oman was recommended (I don't know what this entails yet and what companies do it). Again, any suggestions for a tour group and itinerary would be awesome.
Any ideas on hotels that are nice, and safe in Muscat but not a gaziilion dollars?
I don't know if this is asking too much but if anyone knows flight schedules enough to guide me with my next question...that would be so great....it all ties in to how much time I could stay in Oman.
I need to get to London and then connect to fly to Scotland as seamlessly as possible to avoid overnight hotel expenses and reduced vacation time in Scotland. I don't suppose I could fly from Oman to London and not have to go back through Dubai since I will be flying London-Dubai to get to UAE.
Does anyone have a rough idea about the time frame....am I looking at the necessity of an overnite in Dubai or London?
Thanks so much for any advice any of you might have!
Does anyone happen to know roughly the logistics and timing of my necessary flight route Oman-+/-Dubai-London-Glasgow ??

London > Dubai > Glasgow is possible as a single ticket. Is visit to Oman avoidable? Road trip is quite tiring, so air is better, if you cannot give the city a miss.
why don't do you plan 2 day trips starting from Dubai. There are few top operators in UAE who have a lot to offer, if you like going away from the city.
Cheers,

Hi there!
Well, let's go in parts.
1-Travelling from Dubai to Muscat: If you consider the price of the plane ticket and a normal bus, I recommend you use the latter. The trip can take anything from 5 to 6 hours depending on how long the passengers take in immigration. It's very safe for a female to travel alone in Oman. On the bus, just take a front seat. The scenery is beautiful in the UAE and north of Oman.
2- Two days in Oman is very little, I'd recommend you go at least one day earlier. I recommend two days for Muscat. There you can take a Bus Sightseeing tour, which allows you to hop on and off.
3- It's worthwhile contacting a tour agency in Muscat to arrange your trip to the Canyon. It's near(ish) the town of Nizwa, which shouldn't be left out. Nearby there's also Al-Hoota Caves and many forts. When I Nizwa, I went to a local agency (hard to find!) that got me a driver and in one day we saw a lot. He was just a driver in a 4x4, not really a guide, but it was fine.
