Road trip to Salalah along the coast

We are gonna go to Salalah from Dubai international City on 8th Aug 2013.. Expected return is 11th Afternoon. .a short but long drive trip.. :)

My boyfriend and me want to make a road trip along the coast from salalah to muscat. We were told that the whole road along the coast is now finished. Is that true? We want to make it in like 2 or 3 days (or maybe also more if its recommendable). What are good places to stop for the night? And what are things on the way you have to see?

the route from Sur to salalah has always been passable for a 4x4. My wife and I drove it in a landrover in 1990. the route was mainly track with occasional excursions onto the beach. there are some amazing feats of architecture with buildings and some arches made from coral on route
