I have a bit of a problem, perhaps, and hope that any ex-pat living in Oman will be kind enough to help me by sharing their ideas.
I have an Oman-registered vehicle and took it, entirely legally, out of the country. It was and still is my intention to take it back, eventually, to sell it there. (It still has its Omani plates.) My work permit is, of course, no longer valid, but I might well be taking a short break in Oman at the time the registration (licence) comes up for annual renewal.
Supposing I go to the ROP with the current -or just expired- licence, plus insurance for the ensuing twelve months, am I going to be able to renew it without the vehicle being there and without a work/residency permit (just a tourist visa)?
I've been through this process with the ROP several times, but really can't remember exactly what happened. I'm pretty sure, though, they never wanted to see the vehicle (which is less than ten years old and thus not needing inspection). Did they want to see my passport? My residency card? I can't remember, though it does say on the current ROP website that "residency card is required". HOWEVER, the last time I went through the licence renewal procedure, yes I was living in Oman, but I' pretty sure that I did that renewal during the time I was living there on tourist visas.
This perhaps isn't a situation that the ROP are faced with everyday. During the years I spent in Oman I experienced both flexibility and intransigence. Meet the right official on the right day and things can go one's way.
If anyone could help with their ideas on this, I'd be most grateful.
