Hey...
My wife & I are planning a week-long road-trip from Dubai across to Oman in October (the Eid week) with our 5-year old daughter.
After going through the Thorn tree forum & loads of posts, we've come up with a rough outline of our trip. Let me know what you think about the schedule / places planned. Also need some suggestions from you about some of the stuff....(Qs at the end)
Day 1: Dubai to Muscat
Explore Muscat
Overnight at Muscat
Day 2: Muscat to Ras Al Jinz (for turtle watching)
en route ....visit the Sinkhole after Dibab ...stopover at Sur at the boatyards
Overnight at Ras Al Jinz
Day 3: Ras Al Jinz to Masirah Island
Drive via Ashkharah to catch the ferry at Shannah for Masirah Island
Overnight at Masirah Island
Day 4: Overnight at Masirah Island
DAY 5: Masirah Island to Nizwa (via Barzman & Sanaw)
Overnight at Nizwa
DAY 6:
Visit Al Ayn to see the tombs & Bahla town for the fort + pottery
Overnight at Nizwa
DAY 7
Drive up to Jebel Shams & back
Overnight at Nizwa
DAY 8: Drive back from Nizwa to Dubai
The other option I am thinking of is:
After Ras Al Jinz, spend a night at one of the desert camps in Wahiba
But this would then need to eat into one of the nights planned at Nizwa and this exclude some of the stuff planned for that side.
What do you suggest?
Some of the other Qs I had about this were:
1> Whats the visa process like at Hatta? Heard it could take hours sometimes?
2> Which places in Muscat are a MUST SEE? (would like to take in a little about the history / art / architecture)
3> Is 1 night in Ras Al Jinz enough? Or is a 2-night stay suggested to have a more relaxed schedule?
4> Is the road from Ashkharah to Shannah fully paved / marked?
5> Do they have gas stations enroute from Ashkharah to Shannah or at Shannah?
6> Do they have gas stations on Masirah Island?
7> Any places enroute from Masirah to Nizwa which we should see?
8> Suggestions for places to stay in / around Nizwa? Not looking for anything fancy, but should be clean / nice
9> Any other places which we should see around Nizwa?
10> On the way back, would it be quicker to go through Al Ain? Or back via Hatta?
I know that's a lot of Qs! :) Would appreciate any thoughts you have on any of these.
Cheers!
