Hello -

I have been searching all over for information about camping in Oman but I am at a loss. There are many comments about desert camping and wadi camping but I was just wondering if anyone had experience and could recommend decent places to camp where you were close to toilets etc.

I would be so grateful for any tips or suggestions - thank you

I've never encountered any designated camp sites with facilities in Oman, it's always been wild camping. Even the designated site I've used has no facilities at all. Can't you just wild camp and take a shovel to bury your (human) waste? It's great fun and you get the solitude you don't get at organised campsites with other people.

yep, there are no real campsites. What you could do is pitch your tent close to a good hotel and in the morning if you want a shower have breakfast at the hotel and then jump under the pool shower there.

Alternatively you can buy one of those portable shower bags which you fill with water so you can have your morning shower. If you like.

Places are so deserted here that nobody need see you when you go to the toilet etc.

Have fun!

Yes, hettiedeheks is quite right that independent camping is the order of the day. This makes for an authentic experience, though you might miss some facilities.

Empty Quarter Camps is one campsite that provides some facilities (like flushing toilets, but no showers) at the edge of the stunning Empty Quarter dunes. Shelter is provided for the tame, but you can camp out deeper in the dunes if you feel adventurous. Great for stargazing!

Google "Empty Quarter Camps", or find the info and video on the Secret Salalah blog.

Happy travels :)

For the next week we have reserved accommodation in Sheesa beach camping in Dibba. It should be shower and toilet facilities.
