hello.
i am planning a trip for next year. starting in dubai, i will visit kuwayt city, bahrain (al manama) , qatar, the emirates and finally last but best, oman for the culture and the history. i speak relativily good arabic (with a lebanese-syrian-palestinian accent) which is now a bit rusty but i am absolutely capable to get along and even read newspapers with some help.
i need some info:
i am curious: what to see in kuwayt city, what to see in manama and doha, what to see in the emirates:
i will give you a clue: i do not intend to spend time shopping for gold, going to night clubs or the like, i am more interested to see what is behind the facade of khaliji- shopping malls.
in oman i will definetly want to see all the historical places.
i have previously lived in syria and palestine, i have visited iraq and yemen in the old days, and of course jordan and lebanon, and now, at the age of 55 i want to see the gulf area
i am VERY well travelled, do not need 200 dollars a night accomodations, but i realize it is expensive in the khalij area, so any suggestions from anybody about anything to do and experience is well accepted.
thanks in advance. sorry for posting this only in oman, but that is the country i really want to visit. the rest is a bonus.

Welcome to Oman dear.
I hope you will have very good time here.
It is summer and temp is around 30 - 45

Hey fafo_1958
I wish you a successful trip .
just wana grap your attention , winter is much better than summer for a tour around the khaleeg (Gulf) .
I did it many times in Summer and Winter , last time was full trip by car all around the gulf countries starting from Oman in January.
you said that you can read arabic , if you really can , i have few files saved with me while i was preparing my trip it has places , attractions , restaurants , cheap hotels and coordinates for some unique places.
please let me know if you can handle it , i;ll send it via email , otherwise give me sometime will try to translate the important ones.
regards.

i am used to the heat. i live in merida mexico, from april to june we have 42 with humidity and 30 at night. it doesnt really bother me. i am planning september - october but i am not sure if this year or 2014. and you can have my email fabiofort at yahoo.com

Hi,
Sounds like a good trip. I lived in Saudi for a while and went across to Manama fairly often. Around the centre there are a few things to see and the main mosque but in general there is not that much. In Oman if you can afford it, renting a car is worth doing. Muscat has lots of historical parts to the south but the city is more like towns beside each other as they are so spread out. The roads are very good and quiet so there is no problem getting around. I spent 10days driving around the country and places like Nizwa and Jebel Shamms are very good as well as the desert and the turtles in Sur (Ras al Jinz). North of Sur and south of Muscat are a few very good places such as the sinkhole and Wadi Shab. These are well worth a visit for the walks and the refreshing swims at the end of them.
From my own driving around Oman renting a car I wrote about my experience including maps, details etc on my website that may give you some suggestions

I hope this is of help
