Advice on Nizwa/Jebel Shams

Hi,
Further to my earlier post ( thanks for the helpful replies ), a quick question about my 2 nights in Nizwa area ( no 4WD )

Was planning on two nights in Nizwa, one day to explore, one for trip to Jebel Shams, but don't want to risk the drive up on a 2WD.

Now planning to stay in Sunrise Resort, on the mountain, and they will pick me up from the Musah Old House, Al Hamra. ( 1 night each )

I have been quoted 60 OMR for the return trip....this seems excessive ( $155 )

Anyone got suggestions on how to spend my 2 nights in the Nizwa area, and allow me to see Jebel Shams without a 2WD, or is my plans/cost of transfer reasonable.

I suggest you just drive there by yourself. It is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE with normal, saloon car. Most of the road is paved and it's standard is very good. Only the final part is unpaved but in good condition. I don't know why some people exaggerate this trip. Maybe some of them want to play a role of "adventure travellers" ;-)
Road is a bit winding. Just use low gear (especially when going down) and drive slow!
