Can't answer anything about Syria. We visited Baalback in a day trip from Beirut and it worked perfectly (with a couple of other much smaller stops).

I would like to visit Lebanon briefly from Syria for about two to three days.
In that time. I would mainly like to visit Baalbek.
Would a day from Beirut suffice for that ?
Can I go straight from Damascus to Baalbek ?
Will I have enough time fr sidon from Beirut as a day trip as well.

We were just in Lebanon and Ballbek is a long day trip from Beirut but doable. Sidon is an easy day trip. i think you can get transport from Damascus to Baalbek although we went from Beirut.

You can get to Baalbek straight from Damascus. I came across some travellers during my trip in Damascus, and they just went straight to Baalbek. My understanding (if correct) is you can take the bus or service taxi.
Also, there are some local tours (one day trip) organized by some of the hotels in Damascus to Baalbek.
