Hi

Im going to take a budget backpack tour of Syria and Jordan in November and I'd really like to visit Lebanon as well. I've tried to search for some information about travelling there but there is little from the perspective of female solo travellers. Do you think it would be safe/easy to get around on my own? I had hoped to spend a few days in Beirut maybe Baalbek, Beiteddine and Byblos before crossing overland into Syria and up to Aleppo. . . . or you think I'm being madly naive?

Thanks for your help

Kirst

Hi,
I was there last November.
Seemed rather safe to me.
Anyway, they do have a decent bus service to the towns you want.
I hired a car.
You might check with a travel agent to see if they can form a group with guide that speaks your language.
I used Tania Travel. Hamra Sidani St taniahamra@taniatravel.com

Hello Kirst,

I encourage you to visit Lebanon! Your timing during November is also good - you will enjoy a great weather with little cold sometimes.

Being a solo female traveller should never be an obstacle. Lebanon has a huge tourist flow during the year; big cities and town are used to welcome tourists as well as rural regions.

The cities you have stated are good attractions and I am sure you will enjoy them.

Again, you should not worry at all and communication is not an obstacle as well - English and French languages are well spoken.

Shall you need further clarifications regarding any matter do not hesitate to send me an email: phileas.fogg86@gmail.com; I will be more than happy to assist you further.

All the best,
Pierre

Thanks fellow travellers, for your word of encouragement and reassurance!

I don't drive so I do rely on public transport. I've spent months in Asia travelling solo and found it was absolutely the best way to travel but Egypt was really exhausting to get around by myself (hence the backpack tour in Syria & Jordan) so I wasn't really sure about the extra time in Lebanon. . . . . .and the Foreign Office advises against travel . . . and it seems a bit more fragile than usual at the moment . . . . . . but it's sometimes hard to work out what it's actually like in the country without being there.

Thanks again

Which Foreign Office? The UK FCO, normally v. cautious, doesn't advise against travel (apart from to Palestinian refugee camps).

The situation is very changeable but travelling as a solo woman is fine there. Just exercise the same caution you would anywhere. You won't get hassle like in Egypt.
