Hi there

I'm somehow unsure. Lonely Planet writes online «Last time we visited this hotel it was starting to appear on the wrong side of worn-in. Now fully renovated, this old Beirut campaigner is looking in much better shape».

On the other hand, I found a review dated June 10, 2010 «Terrible, over priced, location is fine but honestly do not stay here. .... and it was the worse experience I have had in a very long time. The rooms were smelly (old sweat), the room was dark, ‘well worn’ as the Lonely Planet describe it is an under statement, paint was peeling off the walls. It ...more [+]was a rip off at $110 per night.»

IS it renovated? Does somebody know for sure? Thanks for a quick feedback, I will be in Beirut this Thursday and I'm doing hard deciding where to stay. I definitely look for a decent single room in the Center, from the new description and the prices (80US single room) Marble Tower Hotel would just be what I'm looking for.

Hi,
I stayed at the Mayflower.
It was highly recommended on this forum.
I liked it.
Rates were good, better than what you are quoting, especially if there were no muslim holidays and it was low season.

Thanks South_of_60!

I checked their webpage, which looks brand-new (I think I was on that page 2 days ago and it looked different). They have a pool, that's a reason to book - I made an inquiry on availablity.

Promissed that if I stay there I post a review.

I actually stayed at the Marble Tower Hotel. Nothing special, but centrally located. The room was basic, ok for me, but not worth the price (USD 80), but Beirut isn't cheap.

I had a fantastic time in Beirut, and I was absolutely fascinated by the Baalbek ruins. It's a must!! First go to Baalbek and then to Rome :-)
