I will be for 2 days in Beirut atending business meetings. Are there security concerns for an American citizen while in Beirut? Any recommendations for safe and v. good hotel providing/facilitating business meetings? Traveling with me is a Romanian citizen ....is he at any risk or the Romanians are generaly greeted and welcome?

Hi,
I stayed at the Mayflower and they did have the facilities you want.
Nice place and helpful staff.
I was there last November and did not feel any concerns!

If you want to pay a lot of money then the Phoenicia Hotel is the one for you. Used by many business people and expatriates when visiting Beirut. As it is also frequently used by Lebanese and other visiting politicians security is quite high.
A little lower profile is the Gefinaor Rotana Hotel. Still a good 5 Star with all the facilities and close to the Centre of Hamra, but not full of celebrity visitors.
In the shortest possible amount of words, security concerns for American citizens are no different than they are for anyone else. The word 'concern' says it all. You may be concerned about visiting Beirut where as I am not. Security 'concerns' are a very personal thing and if we went into all the possible scenarios of what might happen in Lebanon in the near future we would be here all day....
