HI everyone,

I will be traveling to Lebanon alone for 5 days at the end of this month. I want to make the most of my short time and also have the chance to share the experience with others so I am looking for some day trips from Beirut. I would really love to go out to Baalbek and include some wineries on the way there or back. Or a trip to Byblos or the Qadisha Valley. Can anyone recommend some reliable and affordable operators who run day trips (or overnight trips) out of Beirut? I'm having trouble finding this kind of information online.

Or, is there anyone out there planning on being in lebanon around the same time (29 Oct- 2 Nov) who would be interested in hiring a car together and exploring that way?

It is very easy to go to Byblos, Jeita, Baalbek, Beit-ed-Din and Tyr by bus resp. shared taxi (taxi service). If you prefer a tour operator, you may contact http://www.nakhal.com.lb/

Thanks a lot for your reply! I considered taking the bus trip myself and will see how I feel when I get there but wanted the back up option of a tour operator.

It seems this operator only runs tours until October according to their website. Does anyone know any other operators that run tours in October and November?

Dear astatraveller,

I'm currently in Beirut, and would be interested in hiring a car and exploring together. I'm staying with a friend that works here, so was planning on doing some solo sightseeing in the coming week via bus, but I'd love to see some of the places that are harder to get to with public transport. I'm not sure when I'll be leaving, but I should be here all or most of the dates you mentioned.

Look forward to being in touch!

I just returned from Beirut. A day trip to Byblos is very easy by bus or taxi. Take a cab to Darwa (a transport area) and then catch a bus, taxi or minivan to Byblos for 3000LL-5000LL. You won't have to search for transport, they'll find you. It's easy to catch a bus back to the same area and then taxi home.
Basically the same procedure for Baalbek but it is a long day trip.
We rented a car at Avis in the Phoenicia Hotel. They have 24 hour service and rates weren't too bad.

Any ideas what should be a reasonable fare from Charles helou area to Darwa by taxi? Are there minibuses going from Darwa to Charles helou?
