I am writing in so as to establish feedback from our forum regulars in an attempt to ensure a memorable vacation in Lebanon.

I am planning to visit Beirut, Lebanon with my family (kids 15 & 13) for 7-9 nights beginning 8th December 2010 and would very much appreciate your kind feedback.

The issues that I do have to take into consideration are as follows:
1. Accommodation: Apartments vs. Hotels. Considering that accommodation in Beirut in general is somewhat pricey, we seek your advice on this. Our requirement is somewhat basic - a clean place where we can have a good rest for the night and then wake up to freshen ourselves in a clean bathroom.
2. Sightseeing: What would be the attraction in Beirut and its vicinity (taking into consideration that it would be a family outing).
3. Winter fun: We would like to take our kids up the mountains so that they may enjoy themselves frolicking in the snow. We are willing to consider spending a night or two up in the mountains but we also heard that you can make day trips without paying the steep prices.
4. Belly Dancing: Any suggestion as to where we would be able to have a dinner and enjoy a Belly Dance without denting our budget?
5. Shopping: Is Beirut a shopping paradise (price wise)? What are the places to head out for since this is more interesting for my wife?

I await your feedback, ideas and suggestions.

Hey there,

There are numerous hotel choices suitable for families, try checking this website, they have got the best deals for hotels in Lebanon: Lebhotels

Sightseeing: In Beirut - Martyr's square, pigeon rock, National Museum and few miles from the capital you have the Jeita Grotto, the phoenician port of Byblos. The Baalbeck ruins are located around 2 hours from Beirut, and on your way up there, a lot of local wineries are worth a visit such as the Ksara winery, the Massaya, etc. more info here: http://www.lebanontourism.com/

Winter fun: It is expected to snow by the end of November so best would be to take the kids on a mountain trip either to the Mzaar resort (1 hour and a half away from Beirut) or the Cedars resort (3 hours away from Beirut). For more info regarding both resorts and possible accommodation options, try visiting www.skileb.com

Belly Dancing: Most arabic restaurants have belly dancers, but it's best to check with your hotel reception for the programs available during your stay.

Shopping - Beirut: ABC Achrafiyeh, Beirut Souks, Le Mall Habtoor. Then you have the City Mall in Dawra and the ABC Dbayeh (20 min from Beirut).

December is really vibrant in Beirut with Christmas decoration, festivities and discounts. It is also very likely that you will find kids shows and various entertainment options during your stay; again check with your hotel or travel agents.

Cheers
