Stayed at the Sharah Mountains Hotel in Wadi Musa. It was a 10/12 minute walk to Petra. Really nice people working there. There were two brothers that own this family run place. You can't miss them. They are big boys for sure. They were really accomodating and friendly. The hotel is a budget one for sure. The rooms are basic and clean and only 15JD for a double room.

I would recommend this place. Their email address: sharahhostel@yahoo.com and the mobile: 00962788145917.

I heard the church at Mt. Nebo was closed recently for renovation. Does anyone know if it is open yet or if it will open by mid-March?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi all,

A Colombian friend of mine wants to visit me in Israel, and so she booked a cheap flight to Amman, intending to make the rest of the journey overland. However, she has been told that as a Colombian national she needs extensive visa checks taking 4-6 weeks (she's supposed to come here 1st March), meaning she might have to cancel her trip. Does anyone know if:

a) This is true! We've been given conflicting information by the Jordanian authorities;
b) she can get a transit visa (either…

Hi guys,

On my trip with my fiancée and my uncle from 1st to 16th of March we are stopping over in Amman, Dead Sea and Petra. Can anybody recommend hotels in these places? I would need one double and one single room. The single room should be 30-40 Euros maximum, the double room accordingly, including breakfast. Each should have private bathroom as well. In general, the hotels should rather be nice, cozy and comfy, but a bit more expensive, than dirt cheap but unclean and uncomfortable.

Hi guys,

I am about to travel to Syria and Jordan with my girlfriend and my uncle. This year we want to see Petra as well. As I remember from my last visit it is quite some distance to walk to get from the entrance (ticket booth etc.) to the actual sites and even within the valley itself you need to cover great distances to see everything.
As my uncle is not able to walk for more than 15 minutes without a break, is there any way of booking a horse, donkey etc. before getting into the siq? I am…

Dear All,
could you please tell me:
Are there any organized trips from Aqaba to Wadi Rum? If so could you please state the agencies' or hotels' names and addresses? How many hours approximately needed to see the most interesting part of it without staying overnight as we pressed with time.
Can we drive by our rented car up to the visitor center in Wadi Rum and then hire a 4WD with a guide to explore the desert?
Would be easier to visit Wadi Rum from Petra? If so where to book for how much?
Syria…

Below is my itinerary for Jordan. Please suggest any tips for a smoother, more enjoyable trip. We are planning to rent a car (any recommendations for a company?) and although we wish we could stay longer, these are the only possible days for us.

Wednesday evening: arrive in Amman, stay overnight
Thursday: Jerash in AM, drive to Petra
Friday: Petra all day, night in Petra
Saturday: ½ day in Petra, drive to Dead Sea, stay in hotel
Sunday: drive to Mt Nebo and Bethany-Beyond-the-Jordan (Al-Maghtas)

I will be travelling with my mum and aunt in March '08. They are both in their sixties and would like to travel in comfort. We have the choice between spending the weekend in Aquaba, or in Eilat. I would like to know if Aquaba is dirty and seedy. In contrast, I've heard that Eilat is completely touristy, tacky and overpriced.

To anyone who has visited both places, which would you recommend?
Also, can you recommend a good hotel (at least four stars) in either city?
Thanks in advance.

Dear all,
I'm going to Jordan in March with my dad and am, of course, spending some time in Petra. I'm finding difficulty getting accommodation as it seems to be peak season. Has anyone recently stayed at the Petra Moon or Petra Inn and has some feedback - my basic requirements are clean and safe! Also, if there are any Petra accommodation 'gems' I am missing, please let me know.

We are also keen to go to the Hamman while we're in Jordan - is this available in Petra and recommended?

Also, we…
