I'm a college student looking to spend my junior year abroad in either Jordan or Egypt (which means Amman or Cairo)...I kind of wanted to avoid spending an entire year in Cairo, since I don't particularly like huge cities. I've heard a lot of people saying, however, that Amman is too Westernized and characterless. Also, I know that Egyptian colloquial is the most widely understood Arabic dialect. I am majoring in international relations and conflict resolution, so either place would be good…

My elderly mum wants to go to see Petra. She gets tired very easily and climbing would be a non-starter. What would she be able to see and how can we get around Petra to minimise walking and maximise what she can see. Can anyone point me in the direction of a site that can give more details.

Thanks Suzy

Hi,

We are planning a trip for early September, and are contemplating either Israel or Jordan. It seems a lot of people are only spending 5 days or so in Jordan (is there not enough to see?), but 10 days seem too short to visit both Israel and Jordan. I'm not sure which of the two countries have more stuff to see, and is more exciting to visit. So, please help us decide where to go.

For background, we live in the US, but one of us is Peruvian, the other Scandinavian. Both of us are in our 40s…

Hi, we're planning to travel to Israel & Jordan for 2 weeks while I'm 5 months pregnant. I've been to Israel before, but am looking forward to going to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem again. I've never been to Jordan and would love to go to Petra.

My 3 main questions are:

1) How difficult will it be traveling to and exploring Petra while 5 months pregant?

2) What is the best way to arrange such a trip? Overland crossings seem like they are a pain in the ass and I'm not too keen on waiting for or…

I plan on exiting Jordan via the King Hussein Bridge and re-entering via Aqaba about a week later and within one month of obtaining a single entry visa upon arrival at the airport in Amman. I don't care about having proof that I visited Israel. Will I be able to/do I need to obtain another single entry visa in Aqaba even though as far as Jordan is concerned I never left in the first place? Or do I have to re-enter Jordan via the King Hussein crossing as well?

Thanks!

Hi,

currently in Petra, we will be off to Wadi Rum soon.

Can you suggest a tour operator, we want

  • an overnight tour
  • good scenery, the authentic Wadi Rum
  • good sunset / sunrise spot
  • a bit of camel riding

How much is an overnight tour? A previous thread seemed to indicate 40 -50 JD, is that sufficient?

After the tour, is it possible to reach Aqaba by approx. 10 - 11 a.m. - possibly early enough to catch the noon ferry to Nuweiba?

Thanks for your help
Frank

Hello:

i'm going to Israel and Jordan for 16 days. I have a couple of questions and i hope someone can hit me back with the answers:

1-how difficult is it to enter Amman coming from Jerusalem? is it doable by land? what's the best way to do it?

2-How can i get to Petra from Amman, is there any train? bus? or airline that flights to a nearby city?

3-what's the best way to return to Tel aviv from Petra? Return to Amman or is there any flight to Tel aviv or Jerusalem?

I would really appreciate…

I have only one week and I would like to visit Syria and Jordan. But I think one week is too short, so my question is: which country would you choose? Or is it possible to do both? I am a female traveller, never been to the Middle East before.
Thanks a lot!

Two of us are heading to Jordan. We've found a tour that looks to be very good although the company is a bit of an unknown. Can anyone tell me whether they have been with this tour guide/ company, and if so, whether they had a good experience? iris2ours - tour guide is Julian.
