I am republishing two pieces of information here that may not be widely known and are therefore, in my humble opinion, worth preserving. The two posts (now merged into one) disappeared in the Great Thorn Tree Purge of December 2012, when much of the TT archive was removed from view. Both posts are a couple of years old, so I cannot guarantee that the situation on the ground is unchanged.

Hi,

I'm planning to make à trip through jordan in may, but I woud like to combine it with à visit to Jerusalem.
Since I have only 10 days I was wondering if this is doable...
I'm leaving Brussels on the 29th of may and I could catch à plane in Tel Aviv on the 8th of june.
In jordan I would like to see the usual: Amman, Madaba, Petra, Wadi Rum.

Thanks!

On the way from madaba to mount nebo ( memorial of Moses ) and just 1 km before getting to mount nebo church , a new tourism complex was built with very beautiful religious , heritage and cultural museum showing in very nice way all the history of jordan and region from Noah Ark till this day plus a nice handicrafts center where you can see how they make the mosaic and arabesque furniture and mother of pearl with reasonable prices . its really worth to visit.

Is it possible to do this alone? if yes, could you elaborate? seems most people go in groups and use a guide. I'm looking for a hike to do that takes between 1-2 weeks and this one looks most promising to me (or if anyone can suggest other possible solo hikes.)

thanks!

Here are few impressions from my recent 3-day trip from Eilat to Petra and Wadi Rum. Maybe someone will find this helpful.

Passport stamps
It was possible to avoid passport stamps all together (Swedish passport). Instead they stamped a separate piece of paper in both Israel and Jordan.

Hotel in Wadi Musa
I stayed at Cleopetra hotel in Wadi Miss when visiting Petra. I was positively surprised and I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is cheap, clean and the staff is very friendly and…

Quick (but specific) question this:

To visit Bethany and Mount Nebo, am I better off going from Amman, or from Madaba? I wouldn't be driving, so would be reliant on service taxis or hired taxis.

I'm not planning on visiting the Dead Sea, just the above sites. I'm aware that some hotels in Madaba can 'arrange' taxis, but the rest of my journey has me arriving and departing from Amman, so if I don't have to go through Madaba then that makes the rest of my journey easier. In addition, there's…

Hi,
I just wanted to recommend a good driving for anyone in and around the Madaba area. I used him to do day trips to the dead sea, baptism sight, to the Allenby border and pick up from the border. He speaks great english and his rates are very, very good. If you need pick up from the airport or border he is far less expensive then the cars waiting. He can also be found at the Queen Ayola hotel in Madaba (also a nice place to stay and the food is really great).
His name is Sameer
You can email…

Was hoping to travel israel - west Bank - Jordan, using Allenby Bridge, so need Jordan visa in advance.
Website and London Embassy says it can take a 2-3 of months, maybe shortened to 7-8 weeks by paying a "fax fee" of £40 (I'm used to embassies taking the p*** with fees, especially when it comes to express service, but calling it a fax fee, as though it takes £40 to send a fax???)

Anyone applied for a jordan visa in london? Does it really take this long (for UK passport holder)?

Otherwise…

Hi,
I´m travelling from Israel (Eilat) to Jordan in April with an one year old baby.

we will do something like this in a week:
Petra, Wadi Rum, Karak, Shobat, (all by car) and then border crossing to Jerusalém

Where is the best place to cross? go south to Aqaba or go north to King Hussein? It´s possible to do by public transportations from Madaba or the Airport to Jerusalém?
Can someone make suggestions to places not to be missed to a history and nature kind of guy?
Where can we rent a 4x4 tours…
