Hello,

I will be in Jordan towards the end of May for a few days, up to 4 days before moving my trip into Palestine. In those 4 days what are some musts that I have to see/do. I have read a lot about Petra but it looks a bit expensive for my budget (about 70 USD). Is it something I should spend a little extra money on? Also when in Amman what should I see/do? Thank you

Well if you don't do Petra or the other touristy sites in Jordan then there really isn't much else to do that is cheap and fun. If you can do a camping trip in the desert that is cheap that may be worth a look. I found Amman to be pretty dull and only useful as a base. I don't know how long you'll be in Palestine but be sure you allocate sufficient time as its much better than Jordan in my opinion.

I am looking to go to the Dead Sea for a day trip. What cities do you recommend in Palestine?

Petra is not cheap but put into the context of going to Jordan in the first place it's a trivial extra impost and is beyond stunning and well worth it. If you are not prepared to spend the money then Jerash is much cheaper and again well worth seeing - if Petra didn't exist, Jerash would be the tourism icon of Jordan.

Hi,

Even if Petra is not the cheapest place on earth, it’s a pity to miss it except if you will coming back later in Jordan.

If you don’t want to visit it, you can go easily to Jerash, Aijlun and/or Umm Qais.

Madaba, Mt Nebo and the Dead sea are also possible. The 5 stars complexs along the seashore are expensive but you can go there only for the day. A shower is an obligation after swimming in the Dead sea.

For the Dead Sea, I went to Amman beach which isn't as overrun and is cheaper than the other beaches I believe. For Palestine, check out jenin, Hebron and Nablus for sure.

Skipping Petra when in Jordan would be the dumbest possible cheapskate traveling decision. It is, far and away, the most interesting thing to see in the country, as well as one of the more interesting historical sites in the Middle East.

I don't really understand the point of traveling to a country and being cheap. Might as well stay home, save up, and travel when you can afford it. It's one thing to skimp on lodging and food (without compromising safety and health), but the beautiful sights are one of the reasons why we travel! You could spend a whole week in Jordan and want to stay longer, at least for me! I would highly suggest Petra, overnight in Wadi Rum, Dead Sea, and at least Rainbow street in Amman if you are there in transit.

Is [Petra] something I should spend a little extra money on?

Would you go to Cambodia and skip Angkor, for the sake of a few dollars? The two sites are comparable, so you should think of it in that context.

Travel pics, many from Africa and Middle East/Central Asia.
The newest are from Algeria, South Korea and Taiwan.
