Hi,
On 27th July my wife and I fly out to Jordan for 2 weeks. It's our first trip there and we were wondering what clothing/equipment would we need to take with us for this time of year?
As of yet, we don't have a set itinerary other than knowing that we want to see Petra, the Dead Sea and spend a night out camping under the stars.

It's going to be HOT and dry. Take light cotton clothes and sunscreen. A fleece for cool nights in the desert. Petra involves lots of hiking ... comfortable walking shoes are better than hot/heavy boots.

If you are going to spend a night out camping under the stars. A silk sleeping sheet is worth it's weight in gold, in some campsites at Wadi Rum.
Sheet is a great idea in these camps the bed linen are never washed. I saw it there.Take food as well, the food offered by the camps is terrible.
Make sure everything you will need is inside the bag because even those things we buy on any corner in our country you will have difficulties to find in Jordan.
Not even a good quality soap you can buy there.
Take bath towel , in some hotels towels are horrible. Hiking boots to Petra
DO NOT take shorts as #4 suggests. Even though you are a tourist that level of exposed skin is an insult to everybody. Do take light cotton clothes and a fleece for wearing when the sun goes down. Also a couple of hats - even a baseball cap blows away. A pair of flip flops - thongs in Oz - for wearing in the bathroom and around the hotel room is a good idea. Take a spare pillow case/cover/slip - whatever you call them in your country! - to deal with the possible unwashed linen issue. #6 must have stayed in some really cheap places because
at no time in any of my four trips to Jordan (since December 1992) have I ever had an issue with dirty linen or bath towels.
