Hello,

we are planning to spend about one week in jordan's south, Petra, Aqaba, Wadi Rum. Is it a problem to take our luggage to Wadi Rum? We are going to spend a night or two in the Bedouin Camp. Can we store our luggage in the camp before exploring the desert by 4WD? Can we arrange everything at the visitors center?

A 4WD-ride with more than two people seems to be cheaper. Is it possible to get a group together in Wadi Rum? Or should we try to find other people in Wadi Musa or Aqaba already?

Finally the temperature... we gonna need a lot of water. I guess we can get anything in the visitor center or in the camp? And: what about the temperature at night?

Any other tips welcome!

Thanks and cheers
Björn

By the time you will have walked in to your hotel in Petra or Aqaba the receptionist will have offered and probably sold you a 4WD overnight trip to experience Wadi Rum.

That’s what hoteliers do.

You and your new found travelling buddies, having been collected in a mini bus early in the morning are shuttled to Wadi Rum. You have a chance to buy water (2 liters) and snacks for your lunch, leaving your bags with your trusty Bedouin guide. Sort out your overnight bag, torch toothbrush etc. Listen to your guides’ proposed itinerary for the day, pile into an old but reliable Land Cruiser and off you all go. At the end of the day a cooked supper and breakfast the following morning are included, and if you are lucky musical entertainment in the evening. . Instead of being inside a barrack like tent, the top tip is to take your metal bed, mattress and bedding out under the stars. If you are not schlepping your own sleeping bag with you, and you are going to spend a night out camping under the star, then a silk sleeping sheet is worth its weight in gold, in some campsites at Wadi Rum. Check out the thread/link on this Jordan site for ''Wadi Rum tours (and onward journey)'' on May 15th 2009. At this time of the year the night time temperature will be about 18c degrees. It's all great fun!
