Hi all. I realize there are several posts about this topic, but I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.

My plan is to fly from JFK to TLV and arrive Tuesday morning at 11am. I would then like to get to Petra as quick as possible. The earliest flight from TLV to Amman that day is at 5:45pm, arriving at 6:30pm. If I took that flight, would it be possible to get to Petra that same evening, so that I would be able to get started the following morning? If so, how? Is there a better way to do this?

I plan to spend 1 full day in Petra, and part of the second day, but on the evening of the second day I will need to make it back to TLV somehow. There is a flight that leaves Amman at 9pm. What time would I need to leave Petra to make that flight? How would I do it? Is there a better way back to TLV?

Thanks very much in advance for your helpful advice!

If you arrive Amman airport 6.30 pm .It dsnt take long to out the airport within half hour and you need under 3 hours to get to Petra.
Again same in reverse back from Petra to Amman airport you leave Petra 6 pm to get to airport by 9 pm.
I hope i understood your question and gave you the answer
cheers

You could try to see if you could connect from TLV to Eilat. Then cross the border at Eilat and there will be Jordanian taxis from Aqaba. You could negotiate with them to take you to Petra, which is much closer to Aqaba than Amman.
