I stayed in Jordan for about a month during July 2012. I used the mosaic city of Madaba as my base in the beginning of travelling around Jordan. I stayed at the excellent Mariam hotel (official two star rating). For a single person I paid 29 JD per night. I believe Madaba is a very convenient place it´s only 18 km from the airport and far more relaxed than Amman. Mariam Hotel had very cheap taxi deals for travelling around Jordan with taxi. A taxi to the airport costs 17 JD, if you just take a taxi from Queen Alia airport to Madaba you will pay 25 to 30 JD so the discount is substantial. You can ask at the reception and they will ask a car rental company to bring a car down to their hotel without any extra charge. You might think are you crazy driving in Jordan? I would say driving in Jordan is very easy and very safe! I booked a rental car for ten days for 29 JD per day. Petrol was far cheaper than in Europe I only paid 0.7 JD per liter.
I did see the following places in Jordan
1. Dead Sea and Wadi Mujib Canyoning
2. Jordan valley and Golan Heights
3. Karak
4. Dana national reserve and Feynan
5. Petra
6. Wadi Ibn Hammad Canyoning
7. A visit to Jerusalem using King Hussein / Allenby bridge
