I stayed with Rumshines Camp in the sunset area, the owners and staff were Bedouin and were very helpful. We did a jeep tour and walking with a very good guide, the food was traditional Bedouin and very good. We had individual tents which were very comfortable. We were impressed with the toilets and showers which were kept clean and well stocked. We enjoyed ourselves very much and would definitely go back again. We both felt completely safe the whole time we were there. In fact Ii will be going back with a different friend in September that is how much I enjopyed it.

Hello, thanks for sharing this. Just a couple of questions, as I am heading to the same area in mid-July...

1) Did you guys book your camp in advance? I was personally planning to do so, but in the end I doubt that I will, because by reading reports online I've become aware of many "tourist traps" in which I would like not to fall... so I am feeling more like arriving in the area, comparing the offers of the camps around there, and then choosing. Is this how you guys did it? Or would you recommend to pre-book? I am a bit confused on this point.

2) I am a hiker and would like to find beautiful treks in the area, which I am sure will be easy, but just wanted to know if you have any specific recommendations for any hike or trekking route that you have come across?

All the best

Silvia,

I am a french traveller. I went on my own to Jordan, I travelled by couchsurfing and booked in hotels. A nice woman that I met in Aqaba advised me to book my trip in the wadi rum desert in this site: http://www.rumshines.com/
I was completely satisfied because the team was so welcoming!!! the trap you are talking about may happen to those who go elsewhere than in wadi rum village. My experience was amazing. I spent 2 nights in the camp. I ride a camel, i went to see a waterspring, i climbed a natural bridge made in the stone, i slepped under the sky like i have never seen it, you can see every single star!!! The team of the rumshines camp offered me bedouin tea and a nice dinner cooked under the sand!! i wish you an unforgettable trip there! have fun!
