I would like to add if you miss out on buying duty free when you enter Jordan.You can but it from JDF located in Tunis street between fourth and fifth ring,where they have a shop

well two cans will be a start anyways.

would'nt know if there is anything in the mabadda area thats where I spend my first night? or about how far it is into amman I arrive at 8pm

I also heard there is no beer to be had in petra except in the hotels so I will need to stock up and bring some down with me. any thougts on that?

In Madaba you have stores to buy beer no problem there, in Wadi Musa only in hotels one is close to the round about, but it's expencive, if you go to Aqaba you can stock up there too.

hp In Amman downtown there are one inAlshabsog street next to bakery.
one Basman street opposite the mosque
one next the Post office in Prince Mohad street.
they open till late
You can get a map for downtown from the Tourist Office locateed at the entrance to Roman Theatre.
