In March, we will fly into Amman for 10 days and think we would like to go over the Allenby Bridge to visit Jerusalem for 3 of the days before departing for home from Amman. So--we need a multi-entry visa in order to re-entry Jordan from Jerusalem. Are these available at the Amman airport?
Thanks,
Jane

Not as far as I know. You can get a new visa when entering Jordan again though (at a cost).
If you want a multiple entry visa, your best bet might be to call the Jordanian Embassy in your country. Certainly not a guarantee, but worth a try.
Multi entry visas to Jordan are not issued on arrival anywhere. If you use the Allenby Bridge to go to Israel (remember it is an all-day trip!) you do not need a new visa to return to Jordan afterwards provided you return by the same route. If you use another route to Israel you can get a new Jordanian visa without difficulty at the border.

Thank you, Ruth. I am very undecided about even going to Israel but my husband wants to go to Jerusalem for a couple of days. I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to get there and back on an 8-day trip to Jordan (flying in and out of Amman) without taking up too much time. Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Jane

I'd possibly suggest cutting Jerusalem - sorry. Well it could be done....if you get up for the 6 am cars and only take the smallest bag - to speed things up, like a hand bag with a nightshirt stuffed in it. If things go really well you'll be at Damascus gate in 2.5 hours:-
- taxi leaves at 6:00am
- Arrive at border 6:45
through jordanian border and on bus which is moving by 07:15
At Israeli border 07:25
Through Israeli border and on service which is moving 08:00
In Damascus gat at 08:45
BUT THIS ISN'T going to happen (unless you're rediculously lucky!)
Add on a good 30 minutes for your taxi from abdalli to leave; then you'll hit the border with everyone else so maybe another 30 min or more to cross the Jordanian border, then maybe 45 minutes waiting for the bus to fill up. Then a queue at the Israeli border. Then delays in the Israeli border, maybe you're asked to sit and wait for extra questioning which could add another hour or two....you get the idea.
It depends on what you want to see in Jerusalem. Both times I've crossed I've been at Dasmascus gate at 3pm and 1 pm. You 'should' be quicker than me but I always take a tiny handbag - which means to start with the Jordanians queue jump me to the front as I count as 'no bag!'. Assume you get in at 2pm and you just want to see the old city you can see it in a few hours then return the next day (I'd also leave at 6am). But if you've not got in until 5pm (which could happen) you might want two nights.
I'd say budget 3 full days and 2 nights but be flexible so if you get through early you only spend one night etc. Also coming back you should be in amman by 12:00 (if you leave on a 6:am bus) so you'll be able to do some things once through - but you'll probably be knackered!

Op - IF your husband is dead keen on seeing Jerusalem check out your airline's stopoever/short side trip brochure. There are DAY trips available from Amman to Jerusalem - I haev done them! - but I did have a 4 days in Amman to plan it all and check out various options. IF this is the only time you will get a chance to go to Jerusalem then go for it. I am doing it in December - from Amman to Jerusalem for 3 days and then back to Amman to fly home.

How much do you pay at Amman airport for visa on arrival for a US passport holder? Are US$ accepted? Would I save much time by getting a visa in the US before arriving?
Cheers.
Jon

JonMW,
The visa costs JOD 10 and they only accept JOD. But it is not a problem because right before the passport control there is an official money exchange counter when they give you JOD 10 for USD 15. It is open even in the middle of the night.
The visa is granted immediately, you don't need photo or anything, so there is no point getting the visa in the US, unless you want multiple entry.
