I've booked a tour through JordanTracks for Wadi Rum with pickups from Aqaba and accommodation at Petra for two nights. Saleem at JordanTracks has been very accommodating; although I haven't heard from him in a bit and he hadn't received confirmation from Silk Road Hotel in Petra for May 1st-2nd. Is this cause for concern - i.e. how far in advance will hotels book up for Petra at this time (i.e. am I worrying needlessly;)?
I would say don't worry too much !!
Jordan was completely paralised for several days last week because of snow and cold weather. Electricity was cut in some places and many people didn't go to work to avoid slippery roads. This is probably be why it was difficult to have an answer.
As for high season, it's true that everybody seems to expect a very busy season this spring. But beginning of May should be Ok to find a hotel room.
