Hello,

I'm visiting Jordan in the first week of Jordan. We are staying for 5 days and the last 4 days are pretty much locked up.

On the first day we arrive at 11 AM at Queen Alia airport and planning to stay at Medaba overnight. I would love to see Jerash, Ajlion and Umm Qais on that day. I know Umm Qais is couple of hours drive from Amman. I hate to rush to see all 3 places but can't accord to miss them though.

I spent lot of time reading the forums here and I have been keep hearing that I need couple of hours in Umm Qais and 3 hours in Jerash but not sure about Ajilon. Looks like Ajilon is theoretically not possible on that day.

Which route is best to cover these places? Airport to Umm Qais, then Jerash and then to Madiba or Airport to Jerash, Umm Qais and then Madiba?

Looks like sunset at 7;30 pm on that day so have some room there to see the places.

I'm renting a car with driver for these 5 days.

Appreciate your input on this.

Hi,

Don’t be stressed by the best road to do your program properly, your driver know the roads better than us and you but the timing will be very tight. Aijlun is close to Jerash. It’s not the case for Umm Qais.

The main problem is to pass through Amman or bypass it properly to not lost time.

I hope that the four remains days will be more light…

You won't be able to make it. The sites close at 5pm in the summer. You might be able to get access after that by a friendly guard, but don't count on it.
Arriving at 11am gets you out of the airport by midday. It will take you 1,5 hours to get to Jerash. You might be able to add Ajlun, but it totally depends on the traffic and the driver.

Agreed with Henkbos. I'd just head straight to Jerash - it's the most impressive of the three. You could whiz around it in an hour or two, but you need at least 3-4 hours to start doing it proper justice.

Even if the castle is closed, you'll have enough daylight left after visiting Jerash to have a quick look around Ajloun. It's not far from Jerash, and it's worth it - it's a very pretty place.

I'd forget about Umm Qais. It's well worth seeing, but it's a long drive from Amman - you really don't have enough time. If you really, really, really wanted to see it, there is a restaurant on the edge of the site, and I'm pretty sure they stay open reasonably late, so you could go there to eat after Jerash/Ajloun. You wouldn't be able to see much of the ruins, but you would be able to see sunset over Galilee.

Thank you for your replies. I'm planning to stay at Umm Qais hotels overnight. So that I can see the sunset and sunrise. I want to see Umm Qais mostly because of the view (israel, syria border and sea of guilie ) and not the ruins. Ruins can be seen better at Jerash, I believe.

They are different mainly because the localisation (and the size) are not the same.
The ruins are more impressive in Jerash but the landscape is no nice in Umm Qais.
