I am planning to visit Jordan and Syria in August. I know it will be really hot, but... how much? Will the weather allow to walk in Petra o Wadi Rum without having to rush to reach some kind of shadow or air conditioned room (where available)? May it be so high that may ruin the trip? If so, I would change my plans and go there another year that I could travel in, say, May.

In August I have been in the lowlands (the hottest) of Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico, Northen India (Rajastan, Bikaner -the worst-).. I am used to such weather, even very humid. It was OK, although sometimes near the limit. Could anybody compare with such places?

Any help will be most appreciated.

I just returned from Petra and Wadi Rum 3 days ago. Unfortunately back home in the states. I would change your plans to May if at all possible. I'm sure you can handle the temps, but these places are aweinspiring and you want to take the time and enjoy, take in the scenery and just be sometimes. It isnt' worth thinking out the heat. I think Jordan is a magnificent country and it well exceeded my expectations. Email me if you want more info or contacts there, I made some life long friends there.

I can say that the time you are going will be HOT!!!!!! I live in Florida and I am use to the heat. It is nothing here compared to Jordan and Syria in the summer heat.

Hi,

August is the hottest time of the year in Jordan with temperatures around 40 Celsius and above...
My very first journey to Jordan was in August and even though I survived I wouldn't choose that month again.
If I was in your place I would change my schedule and visit Jordan after 22-25 September when Ramadan is over.

Thanks a lot everybody for your advice. Since I do not foresee to be able to go there in better weather for the next 2 or 3 years, we will go. Hope we will survive. Thanks again to all of you.
