Just to add - I don't think there is anything sinister... just maybe you asked one who well, gave an answer of 2 weeks as it used to be 2 weeks, my friend arrived yesterday and she has a stamp one month. Since the visa is extended free anyway the first time, it matters not 2 weeks or one month for 99% of people. In Jordan there is no need to panic or rush because even if you do go over the deadline as Henkbos mentioned above you just pay 1.5jd per day for the days overstayed. It's not like some countries where they impose fines, bans etc ... Don't worry Jordan is cool, you'll have a great time.
