Hi there,

Instead of renting a car, I had the idea that I would just hire a driver who can show/drive me around (Amman, Madaba, Mt. Nebo, Dead Sea, Kerak) and eventually ending up in Wadi Musa and dropping me off there. I emailed a few travel agents and they would gladly do it but for $$$$. Basically it would be a private tour with just me.

Do you know of or have used a reliable driver who can do this? If so, I would appreciate if you shared a phone number or email so I can try to organize this before I get to Amman.

Thanks!

I can't give you any email or phone number but why don't you use a regular taxi driver ?
It will not be a guide but he can drive you on the way to Wadi Musa.
Amman, at least the central part around Downtown, can be visited by foot. It's easy to do that but if your time is limited, you can skip It. I mean Amman who is disapointing.
I suppose that you arrive by air. Queen Alia is South of Amman and Madaba is a better starting point.

hello welcome to Jordan
here are your choices.
You can hire a private car and driver for around $ 80 per day.
You can also share private tours if you stay at special hotels that arrange for SHARED tours for their guests they are popular in downtown Amman.when you share a tour you pay around $ 20 per day to visit most sites in the country.Same time you meet like minded people and make travel buddies.
If you need a private driver and a car check this one mentioned on this forum jordancaby@hotmail.com
You can also use bus to visit Petra ,Aqaba and Jerash there is good regular service. The rest of the country is not easy to use public transport.
cheers

Even if you don't have public transports for all the country, you can travel nearly everywhere with them or, when they are missing, by using an alternative way of travel.
Most of the Jordanians don't have their own transport and use public one to move around.
When public transports are missing, they use contracted taxi (official or unofficial), you will do the same.
Anticipation is the key. It's not a problem at all to move around the country.

Well, If you looking for a cheaper option then I would go a long with the above recommendations by using hotels in down town of Amman or Madaba who they provide daily tours with stops a long the King's high way to Petra .

You also can contact nice-driver@hotmail.com, He's honest & reliable driver .

Hey Raymon,

Thanks for the info. Is the $80 USD pretty accurate and current? I've emailed the person (jordancaby) and a few travel agents and they mostly quoted twice that (100JOD). Is it better for me to just flag down a cab when I get there and negotiate for $80? I can also try to join a tour from a hotel in Madaba. Can you recommend which hotels do tours? I probably won't make it to Amman anymore since Madaba is much closer to the airport.
