Hi !
On our ongoing journey thru Jordan we wish to spend 2-4 days at the Dead Sea. Do anyone have any recommendations on where to stay ? This will be at the end of our trip, so we're looking for leisure and chill-out, sand and swim. Not too pricey, though, but not "on the beach". More mid range type :)

At Dead Sea thre is no sand or swim just float black mud and relax .
There is no cheap accommodation at Ded Sea all are 4/5 stars.

Recommend calling them in Amman and make a booking. I paid 60 JD for a single if I remember right a double room will cost 75 JD. This is by far the cheapest option near Dead Sea. The other possibility is to stay at a hotel in Madaba and make day tours to Dead Sea by taxi but I believe it will cost more or less the same as the chalets. If you stay at Wadi Mujib you can walk the trail into Wadi Mujib such as Siq trail. Please see my blog for pictures.

We stayed in Madaba which we enjoyed exploring and took a driver to get to the Dead Sea for the day - although we had doubts - the Public beach was very good, well landscaped with great facilities (lockers, showers, towel hire) and a third of the price nearby hotels charge for beach access.
Wadi Mujib does look like a great option.

Thank you so much! Madaba sound like a good alternative too! Will definitely go there for a day trip 'cos we have now decided to stay for x days near Dead Sea, so figured it would be cheaper in the end to just book one of the fancy ones :-P

#5 If going to Wadi Mujib don´t forget bathing shoes there is no beach as Amman beach more like bigger stones. However you can have mud baths and a shower afterwards.

You won't need a huge amount of time for Madaba, it was mainly a good base for the Dead Sea - I think that Jerash is much more interesting and worth a full day.
Madaba we suffered terrible weather, cold & rain so we checked out the main points of interest - the famous mosaics, churches and archaeological park. In general we liked wandering the streets & getting a little lost & we came across some interesting local life (a party/a wedding with instruments on the street - not sure but it was fun!), local crafts and we were glad to find Hanania Silver Shop - the locally renowned master silversmith is a lovely man & I did get some lovely pieces in there.
