Hi guys

I know that Abdali station has now closed, but please can you me know:

1 Where airport buses now terminate
2 Where service taxis to Damascus depart from

Thank you

Airport buses usually finish at the Royal Jordanian office.

Service taxis for Damascus still leave from around the Abdali Square although the bus station has been moved

as Ruth mentioned there is a bus service from airport to RJ office near sixth circle as well.

Whoa people, you need to be more precise with the airport bus!

The RJ Head Office is in the Housing Bank Centre in Shmeisani. There is an airport bus stop outside, but I suspect the buses do not originate/terminate there (there's nowhere to park them), but rather at the new Tarabadour bus terminal. (While Abdali was still operating, they used this station.)

Then there is the RJ City Terminal southwest of the 7th Circle. This is a satellite check-in location. Buses go from there to the airport. (Late at night they turn into RJ staff buses, but passengers can usually travel on them if they beg and hold an RJ ticket.) However, I am not aware of any buses coming from the airport and calling at this terminal. (After all, it's only a check-in location!) However however, the "normal" airport express bus inofficially stops at the 7th Circle (not at the City Terminal!) on its way from the airport. On its way to the airport, the bus usually stops at the normal south-bound 7th Circle bus stop, and not at the new and colourful RJ bus shelter 100 meters further south. (Confused...? Have I already told you that the people managing Amman airport's public transport links are a bunch of disorganized, brain-amputated, pot-smoking peasants...?)

There is no RJ office near the 6th Circle. The new RJ Head Office is being built south of the 5th Circle, but it looks like it will be finished not before 2011. There is a RJ booking office at the Hotel Intercontinental, but without any public transport services attached to it.

Airport Express buses start and finish at Tabarbour bus station, 3km north of Abdali (not Tarabadour #4!). Stops on the way include 7th Circle and the Housing Bank Centre in Shmeisani. But that's not reliable (nothing is, with this bus).

There is also a private RJ bus going TO the airport (as #4 says, not FROM it though) - it starts from the RJ City Terminal near 7th Circle as described. It is for people who have checked in early at the City Terminal - but even they have to pay for it (3JD). Non-RJ passengers might be able to talk their way on, also for payment, but probably not, since people on this bus get fast-tracked through airport security direct to immigration.

Companies running service taxis to Damascus are still based in & around Abdali, as before.

Tarababatralala#$%!@... oops, whatever...! :-)

"Normal" passengers need not be afraid of taking the bus from the RJ City Terminal because the "fast-tracking" no longer seems to work (ha, there's a surprise!). The bus just dumps you outside the "normal" departure terminal entrance. If you have a boarding pass and no more luggage you merely fast-track yourself by bypassing the check-in counter (after the initial security check) and going straight to immigration. If you still have your luggage with you (you can take it on the City Terminal bus) you just complete all procedures like normal travellers.

The City Terminal bus used to be slightly cheaper (JD 2) than the airport express bus (JD 3) if you bought your ticket at the City Terminal check-in counter. However, the last time I bypassed the City Terminal and got onto the bus straight away the conductor pulled out a JD 3 ticket pad. On top of this, since some time in 2008 you have to pay JD 1.5 for each bag checked in at the City Terminal! I still like the advance check-in possibility if I have an early-morning RJ flight the next day because it means I can sleep half an hour longer... :-)

The 2006 Rough Guide says you get an extra 15 kg luggage allowance if you check in at the City Terminal, but I have never seen this confirmed or advertised. I never tested it, either, except for the customary 3 or 4 or 5 kg excess weight, which does not seem to annoy RJ staff at the City Terminal or the airport itself.

Rough Guide note about extra baggage allowance is spot on. I've also never done it myself, but have asked staff several times - different staff, different occasions - and they've confirmed it every time. I've also seen it somewhere on the RJ website, if memory serves...
