Hi all,

Heading to Petra soon and would be grateful for your help:
I'm going there with a friend. We will be staying there for 4 days. Since I have been there before, it would be nice to try something a bit different - a day of hiking in the area or nearby sites, preferably by our own (If not, then with a guide) - with the possibility to come back to Wadi Moussa at the evening by foot or by transportation.
Is walking to 'Little Petra' feasible for one day from Wadi Moussa ? There is a trail going there ? Any other suggestions ?

Cheers,

O.

Hi,

When in Petra for the third time, I also wanted to try something different. I had a book of short treks in Jordan around Petra and the Dead Sea. So I was able to do everything by myself. I asked my hotel to organize a taxi to drop me in Little Petra (which costed me 5JD at the time, back in 2003) and then I walked back to Petra. I was unsure of my tracks several time, not the general direction as there is only one option, but manage all right. Then I don't remember if i walked all the way back to the hotel (outside Wadi Musa) or if the taxi picked me up. But iot was great and very peaceful.
I googled the book and I think that's this one : http://www.amazon.com/Trekking-Canyoning-Jordanian-Dead-Rift/dp/9659031505. There are also a few small treks within Petra.

Have a great time there. I am thinking of going back there next year for the 4th time.

Inside the Petra-site there are really good treks to explore, like the one to that mountain with a little chapel on top, I forgot the name the Jebel ..

There are amazing hikes you can do around petra and from little petra. The hike behind and to the Monestary is great and and not very demanding. I just returned from my first trip to Jordan and was mesmorized by the country and its people. There is a great local guide from the area I used and as it turns out garners great respect in the community. Watch out for the bedouin discovery poster, I would not recommend that group as I witnessed their pressuring and behaviour just days ago. PM me for the guides name and phone number.
