Hello
My husband and I will be in Jordan for 10 days in February, we are considering renting a car and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on a good itinerary for that amount of time?
The things we really want to do are spend time hiking in petra, sleep in the wadi rum desert and float in the Dead Sea.
We have never been so are looking for advice on a route to take and other things not to miss. Thank you!

I guess you are arriving and leaving from Amman airport?

Depending on arrival time, you could head straight down to the Dead Sea....then on to Petra (stay in Wadi Musa at least 2 nights)...then to Wadi Rum (again,at least two nights)and then back up to finish in Amman (have a couple of nights there, maybe a day trip to Jerash if that interests you).

A bit of a detour, but the following route is particularly scenic:
1) Amman to Dead Sea via Dead Sea Highway (stop at "you are now at sea level" marker)
2) Dead Sea to Madaba by steep road via Dead Sea Panoramic Complex
3) Madaba to Petra by King's Highway
4) Petra to Aqaba by Little Petra to Wadi Araba road
5) Aqaba to Wadi Rum by Desert Highway
6) Wadi Rum to Amman by Desert Highway (boring but fast)
You will need a good guidebook, better two (Rough Guide & LP) for these routes to make sense and to become aware of the attractions along the way.
For the Dead Sea you need a few hours, for Wadi Rum I'd say a minimum of 24 hours (ideally noon to noon), for Petra at least two full days. Route 3 above can take a full day if you stop at sights along the way.
I hope you are lucky with the weather. February is quite early. One year I saw Jordanians picnicking in 30 degrees. Another year it rained so hard that for three days in a row I could not leave my house.

I'll second Jerash, if you're interested in that sort of thing. It's beautiful, though February is not the best time of year.

Travel pics, many from Africa and Middle East/Central Asia.
The newest are from Algeria, South Korea and Taiwan.
