Hello,

I will be in Eilat mid Aug for a few nights and am looking for a mid range hotel/hostel within walking distance to beach (if possible). Could anyone recommend such accommodation? When I research I only seem to find high end resort style hotels...

Many thanks

In the summer of 2010, I will be going to Israel for from 3-4 weeks, and would welcome any suggestions regarding where I might stay, where I might go, what public celebrations to attend, how to get around, and what expenses might be like. Having been a pastor in the United Methodist Church for 30 years, this will be my first trip to Israel, and desire for it to be filled with meaning. I have no desire in particular to visit tourist sites. Goals include meeting people, experiencing the cultures…

Hello, I'm hoping to cross the border from Jordan into Israel at Eilat in 3 weeks, but I don't want to spend the night in Eilat. Are there frequent buses to Tel Aviv (or Jerusalem)? I'm traveling on a monday, so there should be no problem with reduced transportation.
also, can I just show up at the bus stop, or is it better to book? is there maybe a website where I can do that?
thanks a lot

If I have only one week in Israel what should I see?
The dead sea is my only priority, other than that any suggestions are welcome.

Does anyone know where/if I can rent a cell phone in Israel? Is it feasible or should I just buy one?
I'm not sure how long I will stay, up to a few months at most I think but I do need one.

Thanks in advance!

The Israeli Ministry of Transport has recently published a new regulations booklet on English and Arabic names of towns, junctions etc., as they appear on road signs in Israel.

From now on, instead of using the usual English or Arabic name for a certain town or spot, a transcription of its modern Hebrew name will be used. For example - "Jerusalem" will be from now on written as "Yerushalaim". For those of you intending to drive in Israel, here is a list of common tourist spots and their new…

I looked on the website of Israel Youth Hostels, the hostels at En Gedi and Masada both looked nice. Would one or the other be comfortable for a 40ish married couple for a night or two? Thanks

hi, i will be soon travelling from Eilat to Cairo, and I do not have a Egyptian visa. I know it used to be the case that you can only get a visa to the sinai, rather than to Cairo. Is this still the case? If not can I:

1) just get a transit visa to the border if i can prove that I am only going to Cairo to take a flight?

2) I know that there is an Egyptian Consulate in Eilat. Do you know when this works? I know it has specific hours in which it issues visas. I probably will only be getting in…

Hi everybody!

I'll arrive to Ben Gurion some time at the beginning of next week for a 8-day long stay and am just in the process of figuring out a rough travel itinerary. There are a couple of questions that my guidebook and preliminary internet research couldn't really answer so I was thinking I'll try my luck here. Thanks a lot for your help in advance...

1) My first destination is going to be Jerusalem. I have in mind to stay two or three days before moving on in direction to the Dead Sea…
