Hi all!

We will be visiting Israel in the end of April and would very much like to climb Mt Masada for sunrise. I'm thinking about staying on the Western approach campground the night before, but information on the access routes is not very clear. Can anyone perhaps tell me if it is possible to climb Masada on foot from the western side?

By "western side" I assume that you mean the Arad side. You have have to climb on foot if you want to enter Massada that way. The climb is via the "Roman ramp" and is much easier and shorter than the "snake path" on the other side, probably no more than 20 minutes of relatively gentle climbing. To get to that side you need a car as there is no bus service from Arad.

Also note that there is no road access from one side of Masada to the other. You can't drive from Arad through Masada to the Dead Sea.

(mbgg, we've spent the entire evening chasing each other!)
