I too am flying into Tel Aviv on January 17 (from Dubai). I am supposed to take the train to Beersheva to visit family there. Is it safe? What will customs be like, since I'm coming in from the UAE? I'd like to bring gifts for the family.

But I don't know what will be the situation in 2 weeks

Why wouldn't you be asking your family this question rather than a bunch of strangers?

So she's wanting a variety of opinion....shall we stone her over it? let's hope not. I'm not taking one groups advice on this either; hence, I'm on here.

On another note...how's the Israeli economy right now? Are prices of hotels, goods and other items of interest to the tourist going up or down or remaining unphased by all of this?

Thanks for voicing support for my due diligence, Israel2009. Haaretz posted this article about the tourism economy: www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1052073.html

I think it's hurtful to make assumptions about people's motives or family situations, grinninggnome. All I did was ask a question. I guess I won't be posting to this forum anymore.

#20 Beersheba has taken a couple of hits, but it is a fair sized city, so i would not be put off visiting relations there. It is at the extreme edge of Hamas's firing range, totally different to Sderot so the amount of missiles that can reach it are very limited and decreasing all the time.
It might be educative to see what Israeli's go through even were a missile to come in. At that distance you have 45 seconds to seek shelter.
The chance of you coming to any harm there are almost zilch. Don't worry if you want to see your family, they'll most likely appreciate the moral support.

No one is suggesting 'stoning her', I can see where so many problems here begin. I simply stated the obvious- get the opinion of your loved ones and forget about the stranger's advice here who can't even read.
