I'm travelling around, and will this friday be in need to get from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on a friday afternoon, approx. 5-6 PM. This is as we know shabat-time, and I was wondering if anyone has done the trip recently know and could answer - do the shared taxis or buses go at this time? Is there an extra cost? Where in TA do I find these transportations?

thanks!

AFAIK, shared taxis ("sheruts") run 24/7 between Tel Aviv (Central Bus Station) and Jerusalem. Buses do not run on the Sabbath. Please note: 5pm-6pm is not yet Sabbath so buses may still be running. Check when the last bus leaves - both from the CBS (bus no.405) and the Arlozorov terminal further north (bus no. 480).

The last 405 bus from Tel Aviv central bus station to Jerusalem this coming Friday leaves at 17:30 and arrives at 18:25.
From the Arlosoroff terminal, next to the TA Merkaz railway station (north Tel Aviv), the last 480 leaves at 17:10 and arrives at 18:08.
No problem!

take a sherut. will cost a bit more, but it's your only option.

#3 As I wrote, it isn't necessary to take a sherut. I gave the times of the last buses as clearly as anything. OP wants to get there around 6. What's the problem? And before those last buses, they run every 10-15 minutes.

If, OP, on the other hand, you decide to go later and need to take a sherut (shared taxi), you will find them next to the central bus station in a street called Tzemach David. Just ask. They go to all destinations from there, so obviously make sure you get the one for Jerusalem. I don't know how much it costs on Shabbat, but it won't be Shabbat when you want to go.

This coming Friday Shabbat starts at 7:15 p.m.

a bus from tel aviv too jerusalem is about 17 nis. the sherut is 22 or 27 (higher at night), so there's really not much of a price diofference.
just making sure, you're talking about tel aviv and not the airport, right? because contrary to what it says on your ticket, the airport is not actually in tel aviv...

Further to #5, if it is indeed the airport, you take the Nesher shuttle which runs 24/7 and takes you to wherever you want to go in Jerusalem. Search this forum for all the information on Nesher that you would ever need. (I'm running off to work now, but you'll find the info if that's what you're looking for.)

Haha, I know - I'm not going to the airport. Thanks for advice - and for the enlightening. I always reckoned that shabat always was from 6 PM fri - 6 PM sat. So, today's lesson. Thanks!

No, the time of Shabbat varies throughout the year and the part of the world, because it depends on solar time, not an arbitrary man-made clock. It's from just before sunset on Friday to full dark on Saturday. So in midsummer it starts and ends later than in midwinter. The earliest it starts in Jerusalem is about 15:55 in December, ending at 17:14. The latest is this week, 19:08 on Friday to 20:30 on Saturday. Next week is the same, and thereafter it will gradually get earlier every week until December.

Nesher's phone numbers:
02-6253233
02-6255332
02-6257227
These are the Jerusalem numbers. I don't have any for Tel Aviv, sorry.
