I am planning a Middle East trip and I have several questions. Cheers to anyone who can help me plan accordingly!

  1. What exactly would the itinerary be to get from Tel Aviv to Cairo by bus?
  2. How much does the bus cost one way vs. flying? What airlines fly Tel Aviv to Cairo (normal American travel sites only find outrageously priced flights)
  3. How long does the bus take one way from Tel Aviv to Cairo?
  4. Can I travel to Egypt just solo without having to join a tour group?

Thanks for any help.

Hi there

  1. Check out this link: http://wikitravel.org/en/Cairo_to_Jerusalem_by_bus or http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-453157-1-1-Travel-0-0-Israel-discussion.html. It looks like either bus to Eilat, to Taba, and then to Cairo or perhaps as the second link says a direct bus. Bear in mind Tel Aviv is just 1 hour from Jerusalem so a direct route from either will be quickest.
  2. Two airlines are flying this route - El Al, and Air Sinai.
  3. I guess it depends on the route taken

Hope this helps

There is a direct bus from Tel Aviv through Mazada tours. I emailed them a while back for info and it is way more expensive than you could do yourself as outlined above. Mazada charges something like $145 one way and I don't think that includes Israeli exit or Egyptian entry taxes which are not cheap. At that price, you may as well fly.

Maybe the bus fare is cheaper now with the recent crash in oil prices. They have a website which you can find through google.

I know this person has probably long since traveled, but I thought I would weigh in. I got a round trip ticket in El Al from Tel Aviv to Cairo for $324.00. I'll fly this summer, so the fair may be a bit higher than for other times of year. You have to buy these tickets through a travel agent, most of whom will tack on another $50 or so as a "service fee", so keep that in mind. It's a lot more expensive than taking the bus from Taba, but my time over there is pretty valuable and while I don't mind sleeping on floors...I've just heard hit and miss things about that bus ride.
