Hi there
I'm planning a trip to Israel which will include hiking the Golan Trail.
I've established that it'll take three Egged buses to get from Ben Gurion Airport to Kiryat Shmona, which is fine.
What I want to know is can you get a taxi from Kiryat Shmona to the trailhead on the side of Mount Hermon?
If so, what is the cost likely to be?
Mr Google tells me it's 36.5 kms by car and should take 40 minutes or so.
Any help on this one will be much appreciated.

Hi,
I am an Israeli, I have been to the Golan which is great, the views, the water and the trails. However I am not familiar specifically with the Golan trail. I checked several things and this is what I have found.
The Golan trail starts at the entrance to the Hermon ski site, but you can reach it from Majdal Shamps which is a Druze village (nice people, good food) or Neve Ative which is a jewish village (more organized, smaller, check the map).
1. There is a bus - 58 (golan buses - www.golanbus.co.il) from Kyriat Shmona (19:30 ,17:35 ,15:05 ,12:35 ,10:30 days Sun through Thu, 13:30 ,12:00 ,10:05 Fri, 21:30 Sat). From there you can Hitchhike or take a taxi to the start of the trail, or try approach it when it run near these places. By the way, you can find accommodation and supplies in these two places.
2. Here is the address of the Hermon site: http://hermonski.co.il/summer-en-tours/126-en-summer-howtogetthere.html
You can try getting information from it.
3. Besides that I have found this site about the trail itself: http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Golan_Trail
It is in english.
I hope this will help you to have a wonderful vacation and trip to Israel.
Again I should note that this information is based on the internet and not from my personal experience, however I have been there and the data seems fine.

While the Golan is one of the areas that Israeli's hitch in, I would never recommend this to a tourist. As is obvious right now, there is always a certain amount of danger in hitching. A non-Hebrew speaker will not have the ability to "screen" any perspective ride!

Instead of taking three Egged buses, take the train from the airport directly to Akko, then take the Egged #500 bus to Kiryat Shmona (leaves approx. every 30 minutes).

You may prefer to spend a day in Akko recuperating from your flight before you continue to the Golan:

mbgg, thanks for that, excellent suggestion and for the links.
I hadn't even considered trains.
