Hey Guys,

Here is the deal: A friend and I have are in Tel Aviv, Israel and have gotten word from some friends that we should go to Egypt. They went horse back riding through the desert to watch the sun rise over the pyramids then got a tour around them from roughly 5 am until 11 am all for 50 Egyptian Pounds which is like 10 bucks!!!

The issue is we would need to take a 12 am 5 hour bus ride tomorrow, Thursday night arriving at 5 am to the city of El at where we would get a visa from the Egyptian Consulate and around 10 am take a 1 hour bus ride across to the border where we would get on an 8hr bus ride to Cairo arriving Friday around 6 pm to rest for the evening then waking at 4 am Sat for the Adventure. Then returning back the same trip sat afternoon! to make our flights on Sunday

IS IT WORTH IT??? Please help!!!!!!!

B.

First problem : are you sure that the consulate in Eilat is open on Fridays ?

Even if you do manage to get a visa : The consulate opens at 9 am, even if they are really quick you won't get your visa before midday. So let's say you leave Eilat by 1, putting you in Taba by 3 pm. Two hours to get to Sharm. At this point i would advise you to take an evening flight (~ 40 €) instead of the bus, as if you take the bus you won't get to Cairo much before sunrise.

If your Monday flight out of TLV is in the evening, you can take the overnight bus back to Sharm, arriving there Monday morning, connecting with transport that will be you to Ben Gurion by that evening.

In total you will have spent 2 nights and two days on a bus for a quick 6-8 hour tour of Cairo. Whether that is worth the cost and stress is something only you can decide. But personally I would say that if you want to go to Cairo for only one day then pay for a return flight from TLV.

I looked it up a few weeks ago for someone else. The Egyptian consulate in Eilat is open only Sunday to Thursday.

Hi brandon,

I am in Egypt from time to time although I fly to Cairo or Luxor directly.

There is one thing I stumbled across: I don't know (of course) WHO told you you'd get a tour for 50 LE, but I can tell you from my own experience this person means definitely 50 $ or preferably 50 €, they betray so much over there in Eg.

You could do horse or camel riding much kore conveniently in Wadi Rum (Jordania) but I can''t recall the costs.
Don't beleive everything what people tell you!
