Hi. I'm hoping to travel to Taba in April with a view to crossing into Israel to spend a few days there. Can I just turn up and cross at the Taba border? I have a British passport. I will either be travelling alone or with my girlfriend. I really want to visit the Holy Land and flights to Taba are very convenient for me. Cheers. Ian

Welcome, Sure. Crossing from Egypt to Israel through the Taba / Eilat border crossing is easy. Just show up and go.

When you say you "....really want to visit the Holy Land....", I assume you mean Jerusalem and the surrounding area.

If so, the most convenient way to get from Eilat to Jerusalem is by the #444 bus which leaves from the central Eilat bus station several times a day except Friday and Saturday.

Good luck.

When in April?

Read FAQ 51 to see how the Passover holiday will affect your trip, if you're planning on being in Israel then.

There are three buses from Eilat to Jerusalem on Fridays, with the exception of Friday April 13, the last day of the Passover holiday, which as far as public transport is concerned will be like a Saturday, meaning no buses.

See here for bus timetables. However, note that the site is for only seven days ahead so it doesn't show times for the Passover holiday. Thursday April 12 will be like a Friday, if that's relevant for you.

Thanks for these comments. I am hoping to go on the 17th, 18th, or 19th of April. I think this is after the Passover holidays so hopefully not too busy at the border crossing. Cheers. Ian.

That's indeed after the Passover holidays, it's midweek, and there should be no delays. The only thing on the calendar then is April 19, which is Holocaust Remembrance Day. The evening before, restaurants and places of entertainment are closed by law, but nothing else is affected.
