Well, I wanted to go to Egypt to scuba this September, but my boyfriend wants to surf. So we are looking at going to Israel for 8 days to do both.

Any suggestions on places to stay and where to go?
I would like to make it down to Eliat while I am there, and maybe even up to Haifa?

We might skip Jerusalem as we are short on time, or maybe I need to make it in to a longer trip?

Too many options, ok but to be concrete can anyone answer the following questions:

  1. Will there be surf the first week of September?
  2. Where are the best/quietest places to surf?
  3. Where are the best places to scuba?
  4. Any recommended dive shops or surf rental stores?
  5. Best hostels (private couple room) in these places?

I don't know anything at all about surfing or scuba diving, but:

Eight days for Jerusalem, Haifa and Eilat? These places might look close together on a map, or compared to the distances you might be used to, but those three in eight days will mean you spend much of the time stuck in traffic jams.

To the best of my (almost nonexistent) knowledge, and I'm sure plenty of people out there can help more on this, the only place to go scuba diving in Israel is Eilat. And surfing is in the Mediterranean.
Try these (no personal experience; I just did a bit of Googling): http://www.topsea.co.il/israel%20surfing.htm

What attracts you to Haifa? It's a pleasant enough city, but not the most interesting that Israel has to offer, unless you want to see the very beautiful Bahai Gardens, and/or the Railway Museum.

Thanks for the tips, there is supposed to be good surfing in Haifa, and I have a friend there. But maybe I will just stay in Tel Aviv, if it is nicer for surfing.

Really I would be fine with doing just Tel Aviv and Eliat..but really can you go to Isreal without seeing Jerusalem?

I mean you would just have to do too much explaining to people, everytime you told them you went to Isreal but not to Jerusalem.... thanks for the advice, I might increase the trip to 10 days.

Although, I am not able to go in September now, looks like my work might be sending me to South Africa for a conference....which would be fine, and I suppose I could bring my boyfriend a long, and that could be our vacation but I think the ticket from (OSL) to South Africa, and a weekend safari somewhere would end up costing a lot more than our Isreali trip...

(Not to mention I've already been to South Africa and traveled a bit).

You should obviously go to Jerusalem, but not only so you can tell your friends that you have been!
